Sio Maasai sits quietly beside the Usa River in Manyata Village, on the outskirts of Usa River town near Arusha. Here, the sound of moving water and the rustle of riverside trees set the pace of each day — a place built not to impress, but to belong.
Our architecture draws quiet inspiration from traditional Maasai hut forms — their curves, their proportions, their relationship to open space — without attempting to reproduce them. Walls rise from locally sourced stone and timber, and every material is chosen for how naturally it settles into the landscape.

The name Sio Maasai carries a quiet invitation. While the Maasai people and their traditions shape much of this region's identity, northern Tanzania holds many more stories — Meru, Chagga, Arusha, Pare and beyond. Sio Maasai exists as a gateway to this wider cultural landscape, a starting point rather than a single narrative.
The lodge sits within a Meru community, and the approach itself tells part of the story — fields of rice swaying beside the road, tomato vines and cucumber beds tended by neighboring families. Much of what reaches your table is sourced directly from this community just beyond the gate.
For guests, this proximity becomes part of the stay itself — a chance to walk among working fields, meet the people who tend them, and understand a rhythm of life shaped by season and soil rather than schedule.
